Phnom Penh: On the morning of Wednesday, October 7, 2026, H.E. Chhay Rithisen, Minister of Rural Development, attended as an honored guest the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the University of Health Sciences (UHS), the inauguration of two new academic buildings, and the conferment of certificates to graduating students. The event was held under the high presidency of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet.
The University of Health Sciences was established by Sub‑Decree No. 103 SN dated June 6, 1946, under the name “School of Health Officers,” and underwent several name changes until 1997, when it became the University of Health Sciences. In 2026, it will mark its 80th anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, two new academic buildings were inaugurated: at the first site, the “Techo Thipadei Peace Building,” and at the second site, the “Techo Thipadei Development Building,” in recognition of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate and former Prime Minister, and Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister, for their contributions to national peace and progress—especially the “Palm‑Leaf‑Wrapped Palm Sugar” strategy, which has significantly advanced UHS to the present day. In terms of training, from 1980 to the present, the University has produced 34,633 health‑sector professionals. Today, 2,440 students are receiving diplomas across 44 categories. A study of alumni who graduated from UHS between 2023 and 2025 found a post‑graduation employment rate of 96.19%, with the vast majority working in the health sector.
In the current 7th legislature, the Ministry of Health has devoted strong attention to developing human resources in the health sector, both pre‑service and in‑service, by continually enhancing training quality across all health‑training institutions and promoting leadership and innovation in the sector. Ongoing reform of health‑sector training focuses on competency‑based assessment and demonstrable graduate outcomes, as well as strengthening professional ethics.
