H.E. Chhay Rithisen brings alms and donations from the Prime Minister and the Lok Chumteav to join the 12th day Pchum Ben offerings at three pagodas, Ariyamokkaram (Wat Damdek), Kongkaram, and Santivan in Tangkrasang commune, Tuek Phos district, Kampong Chhnang province
[English] Kampong Chhnang Province: On Thursday morning, October 8, 2026, H.E. Chhay Rithisen, Minister of Rural Development; First Vice Chair of the Royal Government’s working group assigned to Kampong Chhnang province; and Head of the Royal Government’s working groups assigned to Samakki Meanchey and Tuek Phos districts, together with Lok Chumteav, other senior ministry leaders, and members of the Royal Government’s working groups for Samakki Meanchey and Tuek Phos, brought offerings and monetary donations to join the 12th day Pchum Ben ceremony at Ariyamokkaram (also known as Wat Damdek) in Kouk Nan village, Tangkrasang commune, Tuek Phos district, Kampong Chhnang province.
At the ceremony, the Minister, the accompanying delegation, and the Buddhist faithful paid homage to the Triple Gem, undertook the precepts, and reflected on the virtues of the Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha in keeping with Buddhist tradition. They also spread the blessed rice over monks’ offering bowls as a meritorious dedication to the spirits of ancestors across seven generations who have passed to a blissful realm, and transferred merit to the souls of Cambodia’s brave warrior soldiers who sacrificed their lives in defense of the nation’s territorial integrity. On this devout occasion, the Minister and the delegation presented valuable alms and donations from the Prime Minister and Lok Chumteav to the chief abbot, as well as to monks invited from two other pagodas, Kongkaram and Santivan, also located in Tangkrasang commune.
Pchum Ben (the Ancestors’ Festival) is among the largest and longest Buddhist observances. It follows the Buddhist lunar calendar and is held annually from the 1st to the 15th day of the waning moon of the month of Photrobot. In 2026, Pchum Ben runs from the 1st to the 15th waning days of Photrobot, Year of the Goat, corresponding to September 27 through October 11, 2026.
