H.E. Chhay Rithisen attends as guest of honor the opening of the “100th Anniversary Exhibition of the National Archives of Cambodia (1926–2026).”
Phnom Penh: On Wednesday morning, November 4, H.E. Chhay Rithisen, Minister of Rural Development, joined as guest of honor at the opening ceremony of the “100th Anniversary Exhibition of the National Archives of Cambodia (1926–2026),” presided over by Samdech Moha Bovor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the compound of the National Archives and the National Library of Cambodia in Wat Phnom Quarter, Daun Penh District, Phnom Penh.
The exhibition is held under the theme “A Century of Memory: Toward the Promotion of National Identity,” serving as an occasion to reflect on the journey of the institution that safeguards the nation’s documentary heritage and to reaffirm a shared commitment to preservation and to making archives an accessible body of knowledge for study and use. The National Archives has served as a repository for historical records, rare books, newspapers, maps, and key documents—bridging turning points in history and providing a foundation of knowledge for researchers and future generations. Despite war and hardship, this heritage has been preserved to the present day thanks to dedication and patriotism. After Cambodia gained independence from France in 1953, the library and archival depositories in Phnom Penh were renamed the “National Library and National Archives.” Today, the National Archives of Cambodia holds collections totaling 2,000 linear meters.
