Signing ceremony for a grant to support Phase 2 of Village Development under the “Building Peace Villages through Inclusive Community Development” project
[English Below] Battambang Province: Wednesday afternoon, August 5, 2026, the Ministry of Rural Development and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Cambodia held a signing ceremony for a grant to support Phase 2 of village development under the “Building Peace Villages through Inclusive Community Development” project. The ceremony took place at the Battambang Provincial Hall under the high presidency of H.E. Chhay Rithisen, Minister of Rural Development, and H.E. Kim Chang Yong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
The event was attended by the Permanent Secretary of State, leaders of the Ministry of Rural Development, the Governor of Battambang Province, deputy governors representing the provincial governors of Pailin and Banteay Meanchey, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) office in Cambodia, provincial Departments of Rural Development in the target areas, representatives of various line departments and agencies around Battambang, authorities at all levels, and a total of 156 members of Village Development Committees (VDCs).
This grant signing for Phase 2 will continue to support village development activities through the “Building Peace Villages through Inclusive Community Development” project by promoting rural community development; strengthening leadership; increasing participation and ownership; and enhancing capacities in dialogue, problem identification, needs assessment, and prioritization for effective village development planning. For the “Building Peace Villages” project in Phases 1 and 2, a total of 30 villages have been and are being implemented in the three target provinces—Battambang, Pailin, and Banteay Meanchey—with the aim of advancing development in Cambodia’s northwestern provinces, a region once afflicted by conflict and landmines, and transforming it into a peaceful, sustainable, and collectively prosperous area.
