OBJECTIVE:

Primary objectives of WFP EMOP are:

  1. to reduce food shortages which endanger the lives and livelihoods of those directly affected by the floods through the supply of emergency relief food;
  2. to assist families as they repair flood damaged to homes and farming facilities after the immediate flood disaster by providing continued food assistance;
  3. to restore food security and assist in rehabilitation of local infrastructure damaged by flooding through the provision of food and non-food inputs using the Food for Work scheme.

Phase 1: Emergency Oct.'00 = 5,150 MT (actual distributed 7,150mt)
During the first month of operation, the flood-affected populations in most need of supportr will be assist with free food distributions. The targeted beneficiaries received 50 kg of rice, 300 gr. of fish and 0.5 kg of salt.
Phase 2: Stabilization Nov/Dec’00 = 5,350 MT
During this two-month period, it is expected that people will be able to return to their homes. The relief assistance will use a Food for Repair (FFR) scheme to provide food to those identified to be in most need of support due to damage or loss of assets: land, crops, houses, livestock etc. The targeted beneficiaries will receive 10 kg of rice (?50kg), 300 g. of fish, 300 g. of oil and 100 g of salt.
Phase 3: Rehabiliation Jan/Mar'01 = 4,815 MT
During the final three months of the operation, it is anticipated that people will have returned to their homes, resettled and dealt with the most urgent household recovery needs. The relief assistance will use the normal WFP Food For Work (FFW) scheme modality to provide food to those communities identified to be most in need and not covered by the current PRRO.
