Role and Duties of DEMD

The roles and duties of Department of Ethnic Minority Development are as follows:
  • To propose short-term, medium and long-term plans for development of ethnic minority community;
  • To study and research about ethnic minority living in the mountainous, plateau and plain zones; specify the existing identity, forest, culture and customs of each community within the Kingdom of Cambodia;
  • To prepare, plan and implement programs and ethnic minority development projects at the mountainous, plateau and plain zones under the specified priority;
  • To coordinate all development ethnic minority living at the mountainous, plateau and plain zones within the Kingdom of Cambodia;
  • To monitor, evaluate and report all implementation of ethnic minority development programs and projects;
  • To train civil servant of all levels and organize seminar to encourage the active participation of ethnic minority development process at the mountainous, plateau and plain zones;
  • To create and manage national information center for development of the mountainous and plateau zones by cooperation with relevant institutions, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and neighboring countries having the same mountainous and plateau development programs;
  • To prepare and improve policies for development of the mountainous and plateau people and submit to the Royal Government for review and approval; and
  • To delineate the guidelines and criteria for the creation of ethnic minority community at the mountainous, plateau and plain zones.
